Engaging the Future: 2011 Seminar
Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM (EDT)
Having a grasp on the emerging models that engage younger, more diverse audiences is essential to the continued support of the arts and culture sector. To have an opportunity to discuss new developments and recent trends around this topic, please join in the 2011 Engaging the Future Seminar co-hosted by the Cleveland Foundation and EmcArts.
This seminar will feature two interactive presentations and a dialogue session around community-building efforts and social media case studies.
- The first presentation will be from Akron native Peter Kageyama, author of For the Love of Cities. Peter will discuss how economic benefits can stem from the emotional attachment individuals have with their city. He will also discuss the important role of creative individuals in the community building process and how arts can serve as a “trigger” for creative individuals in the community.
- The second presentation will be from Devon V. Smith, the current Director of Social Media at Threespot and an active researcher and blogger in the arts at www.24usablehours.com. Devon will discuss the potential value of social media to arts organizations and how online communities can transform an arts organization’s relationship to all of its constituents—ticket buyers, donors, artists, board members and the community alike.
The information presented in this seminar will be of interest to staff, artistic and volunteer leadership in arts and culture and we encourage up to three people per organization to attend.
